A fantastic August 1902 early Edwardian addressed 'War Office' envelope to VC Winner Lt. Colonel Walter Congreve.

A Captain at the time, he was awarded the VC for his actions at the Battle of Colenso in December 1899 during the Boer War (1899-1902). Congreve and three other men rescued two Field Guns that were under intense enemy shell and rifle fire and then returned to rescue a wounded Soldier under heavy rifle fire.

Walter Congreve VC went on to attain the rank of General and was Knighted.
