An incredibly rare and early 1914 Watercolour of an RNAS (Royal Naval Air Service) biplane 'looping the loop' at the RNAS base at Eastchurch, Kent UK. 'Looping' became all the rage after the Russian aviator Petr Nesterov performed the first ever loop in September of the previous year.
Is the flyer, Lt John Alcock, the same flyer who with his co-pilot achieved aviation history in June 1919 by becoming the first aviators to cross the Atlantic? To be confirmed!
They took off from Newfoundland, USA, flew 1980 miles and arrived in Ireland sixteen hours later.
John Alcock died in a flying accident six months later in December 1919.
