A fabulous Edwardian era Pen and Ink two scene drawing of a female cycling in the first drawing and then in the second Picture suffering from the 'terrors' of a puncture as decribed in the poem underneath.
Although women were early uptakers of cycling they are very under represented in the artwork of the time.
O! Happy sport of Summer days!
of gladdening spring and chilly autumn.
Your 'terrors' may we all be spared
Your 'pleasures' given hearty welcome.
May she, to whom this book belongs
your joyous 'pleasures' taste full many.
Your 'terrors' (punctures!) far between
or better even, ne'er have any.
